  • Biographical / Historical

    The city of Ishpeming is located in Marquette County, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It was chartered in 1854. Its primary industry was iron mining. Thousands of immigrants from mainly European countries came to this area to work in the iron mines. These documents were stored in the basement of Ishpeming's City Hall and highlight a number of aspects of Ishpeming's city government from the early 1880s through the mid 1950s.
